MAIN INFO/ DATA
Four National & Natural Parks join together to round the Banat “Schweizer” of Caraș-Severin Region along the Banat Mountains & Hills (Almăj, Anina, Dognecea, Locva & Semenic Mountains) in the western-south part of ROMANIA.
We are talking about:
1. Semenic – Caraș Gorge National Park
2. Domogled – Cerna Valley National Park
3. Nera Gorge – Beușnița National Park
4. “Porțile de Fier” Natural Park
Caraș-Severin Region is not only about The Banat Mountains, but also about The Retezat-Godeanu mountain group (Mic, Țarcu, Godeanu, Mehedinți & Cerna Mountains) of the Southern Carpathians, with its highest altitude on Gugu Peak 2291 m, not to mention Poiana Ruscă Massif of the Western Carpathians.
We will focus mainly on Semenic – Caraș Gorge National Park, home of “Nera’s Springs Natural Reserve” – one of Europe’s biggest centuries-old virgin forest of over 5000ha, part of UNESCO HERITAGE SITE.
We are talking about the place where lies the first european pedestrian route in ROMANIA, namely THE E3 EUROPEAN LONG DISTANCE PATH with its marked route along the Banat Mountains starting on Semenic Plateau to Dubova thru Comarnic Cave – Mărghitaș Lodge – Buhui Lake – Crivina Forest Range – Ochiul Beiului Lake – Damian Forest Range – Nera Gorge – Devil’s Lake – Cărbunari Village – Gârnic – Ravensca – Izvorul Lung Valley – Debeliliug Glade – Bigăr – Ravna Glade.
The E3 RAMBLING PATH it is supposed to enter our country in Oradea Region, then pass along the Apuseni Mountains & Poiana Ruscă Massif, cross the Banat Mountains and finally leave the country at “Porțile de Fier I” frontier passing point .
There are 12 European long-distance paths so far defined from which besides E3 (6950 km) there is also another one passing thru ROMANIA, namely E8 (4500 km), both maintained by the European Ramblers Association.
